Bottle text: Long ago in stories both real and imagined, pieces of eight made up a single silver Spanish dollar. The coin was so perfectly crafted for its time that it was used the world over for goods, trade, and, most famously, pirating. Great deeds, nefarious and noble, were performed for a hefty purse of the little silver pieces, split among crew as the pirate code dictated. Almost as if by tradition, everyone from pirate lords to crewmen would use their share to purchase what was almost as sought after as the coins themselves and nearly as necessary—a bottle of rum. At Highlands Distillery we took inspiration from the meticulous Spanish craftsmen who created pieces of eight and tried our hand at making a rum that pirates and privateers would have fought for the last bottle of. Our Pieces of Eight Pineapple Rum is vapor infused with real pineapple, imparting subtle citrus flavor with bright tropical notes and a distinct sweetness innate to the spirit. We then rested the rum in an oak cask once used for our Oryeon American Rye Whiskey-weathered wood like a pirate ship on the ocean. The result is a lightly golden rum, the envy of the treasure hordes of old, that marries the sweetness of the tropics with the bold spicy notes of a robust American whiskey.
